    Certificate 3 in Individual Support ( Ageing and Disability) is a course designed to give the student entry into the aged care sector as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA). The course modules are structured to provide a balanced program of theory and practice relevant to the career opportunities across the aged care industry.

  • Qualifications and statements of attainment

    Students who successfully complete all of the required units of competency of this course will be issued a testamur with the record of results printed at the back.

    A statement of attainment will be issued if a student successfully completes one or more units of competency of this course, but does not meet the requirements for a qualification (as specified in the Training Package). The statement of attainment will list all of the units of competency achieved.

    The students can enrol any time of the year. The commencement of all courses is subject to enrolment quotas.   • Aim of the course

    Students may do this course as an entry pathway into the aged care industry. Our course is directed towards developing multi-skilled workers for the broad range of services supporting aged people in residential and community settings.

  • Mode of delivery

    Face to Face Delivery includes Class room learning at campus, Self-directed learning at campus, Simulationbased training and assessment at campus and Work Experience Placement in an aged care setting

    Blended Delivery that includes e-learning, on campus simulation based training/assessment and work experience placement.

    5. CHCLEG001 : Work legally and ethically
    6. HLTAAP001 : Recognise healthy body systems
    7. HLTWHS002 : Follow safe work practices for direct client care
    Group A electives - AGEING Specialisation
    1. CHCAGE001 : Facilitate the empowerment of older people
    2. CHCAGE005 : Provide support to people living with dementia
    3. CHCCCS011 : Meet personal support needs
    Group B electives - DISABILITY Specialisation
    1. CHCDIS001 : Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
    2. CHCDIS002 : Follow established person-centred behaviour supports
    3. CHCDIS003 : Support community participation and social inclusion
    4. CHCDIS007 : Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability

     

  • Admission criteria

    You will need to have completed year 10, or equivalent or mature age students. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following:

    • A qualification at Certificate II level or higher OR
    • 2 years industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication.
    • For mature age students who do not meet the academic qualifications above will be considered for admission and need to attend an interview.

    Be able to use and respond to written language, including some unfamiliar material in a variety of contexts. Successfully complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test (LLN).

    Obtain a satisfactory Police Clearance Certificate, Working with Children Check for Work Experience Placement, as applicable.

    For blended delivery the student must have access to a computer with internet and basic computer skills.

  • Assessment strategies

    Assessment strategies are implemented for collecting evidence and making judgements about whether competency has been achieved by the learner. The assessments confirm whether an individual can perform to the standards expected in the workplace, as expressed in the relevant endorsed unit of competency.

    Students will be assessed in both a formative and summative way. These assessment methods and strategies are consistent with the Training Package Assessment Guidelines. Assessment tools used include:

    • Knowledge based tests
    • Simulation based assessments
    • Practical placement book
